She added harmonica, piano, accordion, and whistles all while developing her singing voice; influenced by her mother Gloria, Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickinson, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Madonna. Besides being nominated for many awards and musical accolades, her song “Keep Me Warm” music video was directed by Tane McClure Arendt and Julie Strain lip-synched her song “Forbidden Fruit” in the cult film Witchcraft IV. Patric Petrie
Clairemont-based fiddler Patric Petrie is best known for her work with the group Skelpin, which won Best World Music album at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards for their album A Trip to Skye.
She recorded her debut full-length Pocket Venus (originally to be called Transit of Venus) in 2012, releasing it in May of the following year. Produced by Alan Sanderson (Rolling Stones, etc.), it includes an appearance from Flogging Molly’s Matt Hensley.
“Pocket Venus refers to a woman who is petite in height, yet voluptuous and curvy at the same time,” says Petrie of the album title. “I’m maybe 5’ 2’ on a good day, and supposedly did not make the cut for Celtic Women because I was too short.”
In early 2016, she joined former Steve Miller Band guitarist Greg Douglass at Earthling Studios, to play on several songs for the new album Douglass was recording with Mike Kamoo (the Loons) at the board, though her tracks were ultimately scrapped. Around the same time, Petrie's band Skelpin was working on their third album, with Flogging Molly's Matt Hensley contributing.
